Divorce: What is God’s Will?

Divorce in this age has become the order of the day. It has become the escape route to what was supposed to last till death do part and to many, it is now the first and only option that comes to mind as a solution when going through marital difficulties.

In such situations, we need to first pause and think and ask ourselves, if there is another way to go about this, if this is the only option right now, or does God have a better way other than this?

To know God’s stance on this, you need to search the word of God in the Bible to know exactly what God is saying concerning this. Don’t just solely rely on what the society, law, or even what the local church or Pastor has said or has to say concerning divorce. (Please don’t get me wrong, it is good to listen to what your pastors say, but you must also check to make sure it is in alignment with the Word of God in the Bible).

So why is it important to search the Word of God for guidance? This is because we will all stand before God alone on the Day of Judgment with only the Word of God (The Bible) to judge us.

John 12:48 KJV
He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

You have an obligation to know what God says in His Word so that His word doesn’t judge you in the end. God Himself said in Hosea 4:6 KJV “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.”

Therefore in every aspect of your life before finalizing on any decision especially life changing decisions, it is you responsibility to first personally and honestly seek what God’s Word has to say and ask for His grace to faithfully obey it.

Having said this, now let’s take a look at what God’s Word is saying concerning divorce and remarriage while your first spouse is still alive. I pray as you read, that God opens your heart to honestly see the truth and give you the grace to obey it faithfully and pass on the information to others.

The Things God Hates

Lets start by looking at some of the things God hates in the verses below

Proverbs 6:16-19 KJV
“These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: [17] A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, [18] An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, [19] A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.”

Deuteronomy 16:22 KJV
“Neither shalt thou set thee up any image; which the Lord thy God hateth.”

Psalm 45:7 KJV
“Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.”

From the few verses above we have a picture of some of the things that God hates, now let’s look at another thing God hates in Malachi 2:16a KJV “For the Lord, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away:”

Notice how God uses the same word ‘hate’ (hebrew word ‘śānē’) to express His view point on murder, pride, lies etc, to also express His view point on ‘putting away’ (divorce). God mentions that judgment is awaiting unrepentant lairs, murderer’s etc, and all who practice such things he hates (in Revelation 21:8 and James 4:6), do you think he hates divorce any differently than murder? Do you think He see’s divorce as lesser sin to murder or even a simple lie, or proud look? I will really like you to take a deep look at the weight of God’s Word here.

Please ponder on this before you continue reading….

What Jesus taught

Now let’s look further into the New Testament and see what Jesus taught about divorce. The bible says in

Matthew 5:31-32 KJV
“It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement: [32] But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.”

Also in

Matthew 19:3-9 KJV
“The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? [4] And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, [5] And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? [6] Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. [7] They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away? [8] He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so. [9] And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.”

Notice that in both verses Jesus uses the word “Fornication” and not adultery as a reason for divorce. Fornication is sexual intercourse between people who are not married, while adultery is sexual intercourse between a married person and a person who is not their spouse. Why then did Jesus use the word fornication as a reason for divorce when you cannot grammatically fornicate once you are married? If Jesus was referring to adultery as a reason for divorce, He would have stated it clearly.

You might say, well some other bible translations use the word “sexual immorality” in the place of fornication, however, if you go back to the original Greek word “Porneia”, this word was used through out the entire Bible to only denote the word Fornication. Below are some references to the Greek word “Porneia ” as used to indicate fornication

VerseUsed byReference in KJV
Matthew 5:32Jesus…saving for the cause of fornication,  causeth…
John 8:41Jews…We be not born of fornication; we have….
Acts 15:30Elders of the Church…from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and….
Romans 1:29Paul the Apostle…filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness..
1 Corinthians 5:1Paul the Apostle…that there is fornication among you…
1 Corinthians 7:2Paul the Apostle…to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife…
Galatians 5:19Paul the Apostle… Adultery, fornication, uncleanness…

Galatians 5:19 is a good reference to look at, because in this verse both fornication and adultery are mentioned, however the original Greek word for both varies. The Greek work for adultery in this verse is “Moicheia” while that of fornication is still “Porneia”.

Therefore, Jesus was definitely not referring to adultery as a reason for divorce in Matthew 5:32 and Matthew 19:9. What then was Jesus referring to?

Except for Fornication, What does it mean?

You need to understand that Jesus was speaking to a Jewish audience and according to ancient Jewish tradition there were two major ceremonies that had to occur before a wedding was finalized, and these two ceremony have an interval of time in between.

The first ceremony was the betrothal and then (about and a year later) the final wedding ceremony takes place.

After the first ceremony, the woman remains in her father’s house, however the relationship between her and her betrothed was seen and considered as a legally binding marriage that needed a divorce to be broken. At the second stage which is the wedding ceremony, the lady is then brought from her father’s house to the groom’s house and the union will then be consummated.

If either the man or woman is caught having sexual intercourse with someone other than his/her betrothed before the final ceremony, then he/she would be accused of fornication because the betrothed union has not been consummated yet.

This is what Jesus was referring to. He was not referring to adultery as a reason for divorce but to fornication which could only happen before the final wedding ceremony (i.e before the union was consummated).

Just like the case of Joseph and Mary the earthly parents of Jesus, they were betrothed, but Mary was not yet living with Joseph because the final wedding ceremony was yet to take place. That was why when Joseph realized that Mary was pregnant, he thought to put her away privately because he didn’t want to put her to public shame, but the angel of the Lord came to him and explained to him that the baby in Mary’s womb was of the Holy Spirit, and that he should not put her away. Matthew 1:18-20;

Matthew 1:18-20 KJV
“Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost. [19] Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily. [20] But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.”

Notice that Mary was referred to as Joseph’s wife and Joseph was referred to as Mary’s husband even before the final ceremony.

With this you can further see and understand how God see’s divorce. With God, adultery or an unfaithful partner is not an acceptable reason for divorce. I have heard so many people use this verse of the scripture in Matthew 5:32 and Matthew 19:9 as a to scriptural reference God’s acceptance of divorce, however, that is not what God was saying there. Jesus says if you put away your spouse because of adultery and marry another, you are committing adultery and causing your spouse (who is married to another) to also commit adultery. We really need to weigh the Words of God here and consider its meaning.

Please ponder on this before you continue reading….

Other statements on divorce in the Bible

Let’s now look further and see what the Holy Spirit also said through Paul the Apostle concerning divorce in the bible

The Bible says in

1 Corinthians 7:10-11 KJV
And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: [11] But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife.

God clearly says here that neither the husband nor wife should leave their matrimonial home, but if he/she must leave, then he/she must remain unmarried or return to his or her spouse. This is a clear commandment by God.

The common misconception of 1 Corthians 7:15

Lets look at the scripture below

1 Corinthians 7:10-15 KJV
And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband: [11] But and if she depart, let her remain unmarried, or be reconciled to her husband: and let not the husband put away his wife. [12] But to the rest speak I, not the Lord: If any brother hath a wife that believeth not, and she be pleased to dwell with him, let him not put her away. [13] And the woman which hath an husband that believeth not, and if he be pleased to dwell with her, let her not leave him. [14] For the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified by the husband: else were your children unclean; but now are they holy. [15] But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.

Verse 15 above says, “If the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God has called us to peace“.

Looking at only verse 15 above, a lot of individuals use it as another Bible reference in support of divorce, but if you read the passage from verse 10, you will notice that Paul gave an express command from the Lord Jesus that there should be no separation in marriage, and if there is, they must remain unmarried or return back to her spouse.

Knowing that the Bible can never contradict it self, we cannot therefore say that verse 15 means that if a partner leaves you are free to get married. If it did, it will contradict what God said in 1 Cor 7:10,11; and Matthew 19:9;

What does verse 15 therefore mean? It means if an unbelieving partner leaves you (notice the word ‘unbelieving’ hence not for believing God fearing sons and daughters of God to do), you cannot use force to ensure that your partner stays with you, you can let him/her go at their own will, however, as long as that spouse is still alive in accordance to 1 Corinthians 7:10&11, you must remain unmarried.

The Covenant in a Marriage

God uses the relationship between Jesus Christ and the church as an example of the kind of relationship that should exist between man and a woman, with Jesus Christ being the Groom and the church being the bride.  We can see this in the bible verses below

Ephesian 5: 22-25 KJV

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. [23] For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. [24] Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their husbands in everything. [25] Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it;

The basis of the relationship between Jesus Christ and the church is a covenant relationship that is sealed by the blood of Jesus as stated Luke 22:20b KJV “This is the new testament (covenant) in my blood, which is shed for you.” Therefore the basis of the relationship between a man and his wife is also a covenant relationship sealed by God Himself. That’s why Jesus said in Matthew 19:6b; KJV “What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.”

So, if the relationship between Christ and the Church is seen as a covenant one, then, in like manner, the relationship between the man and his wife is also seen as a covenant relationship. Therefore as God does not break His covenant, as stated in Psalms 105: 8 KJV “He hath remembered His covenant for ever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations.” He expects us His children to keep to our promises and never break our marital vows.

As the Bible clearly states in Matthew 19:6b, it is God who joins a couple in marriage, not just the Priest, Pastor or Court. So even if an induvidual is divorced, in the sight of God, that individual is still joined to his/her first spouse (If still alive).

God’s Stand on Divorce

It is thus clear that God hates divorce and warns against it. Although our society sees nothing wrong in it, and are embracing and using it as an exit route out of marriage, in the eyes of God it is wrong, no matter how you might try to justify it in your eyes, God has no place for it in His Kingdom.

According to the Word of God, a divorcee is not permitted to re-marry as long as the first spouse is still alive. Regardless of whether the society or the law accepts or embraces divorce or not, God is not in support of a person divorcing his/her spouse to marry another person. He sees it as adultery. Romans 7:2-3; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10.

Infidelity, financial difficulty, constant arguing, incompatibility, irreconcilable difference etc are not reasons for divorce.

It is known fact that many marriages are full of challenges, many endure instead of enjoy marital bliss. Some women are abused constantly, while some men wish they never got married because of the how their wives treat them. Many couples face difficult situations with divorce looking like the only option. Some have reached a cross road in their marriage which has made divorce look justifiable. I do not dispute these realities, I even pray that as many marriages that are at the brink of divorce will receive the light of Christ. My point is that no matter the challenges we face in marriage, the Lord commands us to do our best to make it work. However, if after you have done your best and your spouse still wants out, then like the Lord commands, you can let him/her go but you have to remain unmarried.

This might not look honourable in the sight of the society but in the sight of God whom we live to please, it is honourable. For what shall it profit a man if he gains remarriage and loses his soul eternally?

I pray this post opens your eyes and heart to the truth in God’s word and helps you avoid making a mistake.

What does it mean to be Born Again?

Born Again? A phrase used by so many today. Yet only a few grasp and understand what this experience really means, and the kind of life that is born after it.

So what does it mean to be born again? To understand this better, we have to first understand its importance, how you can experience it and then finally the life that is born after this new birth.

So lets start with its importance.

Importance

Some people believe that there is only one God and that men worship this God differently through the various religions we see today. However, this is not what that Bible teaches. The Bible teaches that there is only One true God, the creator of all things both living and non-living, visible and invisible. This God is the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and the Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the I Am That I Am. This same God has a Kingdom referred to as the Kingdom Of God and requires that everyone who desires to be part of His Kingdom to worship Him must first be born again. Any other way of worship, that does not start with this, is not acknowledged by Him.

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

John 3:3 KJV

To become a member of the true family of God and start your journey to spending eternity with Him, you MUST be born again. Without this, you have NO hope of heaven. Regardless of how morally good you believe you are, or all the good things or deeds you have done, which is good if you do, however, they have no power to give you eternal life. The only way to God is to be born again.

How then can a person be born again?

Jesus said in John 14:6 KJV “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me”.

To get to God (The Father), you must go through His only begotten Son Jesus (who is God Himself). The bible says in Colossians 1:19 KJV “For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell” Therefore, it is the Will of God, that to come to Him, you must first come through His only begotten Son Jesus, because He is the only One who has paid the price to save and ransom man from his sins.

Jesus is therefore calling on everyone to come to Him. He says in Matthew 11:28 KJV “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” and in John 6:37b KJV “and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.”

All Jesus is asking you to do today is to believe in Him as the Son Of God, believe that He has paid the price for all your sins and ask Him to forgive you of every sin you’ve ever committed and to give you a new life. Surrendering your whole life and everything you are into His hands.

If you do this genuinely with a true and sincere heart, your spirit man will be born anew by the Spirit of God into the family of God. (Every man and woman has a physical body, a spiritual body and a soul. It is your spiritual body that is born during this very experience).

You can relate this birth to the birth of a new born baby into a family, however, in this case, it is the Spirit of the Most high God who is birthing you into the family of God. Your spirit will be like a new born baby, needing to drink the true milk of the Word of God and to pray everyday to be sustained and to grow and mature from that baby to a fully grown adult in the body Christ (which is the Family of God). Just like its written in 1 Peter 2:2 KJV “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:”

This is what it means to be born again. It is being spiritually birthed into the family of God.

After this, you can never remain the same. It brings a complete change of life.

The life that matches the experience

Being born again is a true miracle indeed, and with continuous submission to God, your whole life undergoes a complete transformation.

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is an new creature: old things are passed away; behold all this are become new

2 corinthians 5:17 kjv

When Jesus becomes the Lord of your life, His very nature (character) becomes you and you begin to live and act just like Jesus would. His holiness, purity, honesty, displeasure for sin and pride, nature of love, modesty, seeking the Will of His Father and many more gradually becomes who are. We become His ambassador and replica on earth. The best part about it is that He gives us the Power to be like Him, as it is written in John 1:12 KJV “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” However, sadly is not the case with many who profess to be born again today, they live lives completely opposite of who Christ is and what He represents. Which is not His will.

Many choose to hide under the cloak of saying that Jesus is God, He can live a sinless life, but we, we are human, its impossible for a man to be holy. This is the deception of the devil. Everything God has ever asked man to do, he made sure everything was in place for man to do and achieve it. He has given us the power to become His sons and daughters. It is therefore not by our power we achieve this but by the power and grace of God.

All you need to do is to daily ask Him for that grace and power, daily check your hearts and life to see if we are still in a right standing with God and returning back to him if found wanting .

Today many now go by the doctrine of once you are born again you are forever born again regardless of the life you live, hence believing they can continue living a life of sin and still be on the way to heaven. This is a great deception from the devil and its a complete lie. Jesus mentioned so many times in the bible that we are to remain watchful and prayerful while waiting for His return. Below are some references:

The bible says in Mark 13:33 KJV “Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is”, 1 Corinthians 10:12 KJV “Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.”and in Luke 21:34 KJV “And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.

The bible also says in Ezekiel 3:20 KJV “Again, When a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered…..”

This means that a Christian who who has left the way of righteousness and goes back into sin, if he dies in that sin without repenting, the bible says that his initial righteousness will not be acknowledged. Hence, you will be judged by your current standing before death. Therefore, we must continue in His righteousness and be loyal to him if we want to see him on the final day.

So now you know what it really means to be born again, you know it’s importance and what is expected of you. I pray that this finished work of Christ will transform the whole of your being, so that you will be a reflection of His Glorious Image. Nothing on earth has the ability to transform the life of a man except the finished work of Christ.

If you are born again and are yet to see this transformation in your life, I urge you to dig deeper and imbibe the habit of reading and meditating on the Word of God daily and determine to do what it says. The Word contains the basic instructions for life and living and has the power to shapen our lives. When I gave my life to Christ, I made up my mind to pattern my life strictly according to the instructions of the bible and this brought me closer to God and transformed my life. I know that if you too follow this step, your life will be a reflection of the transformation that Christ brings.

If you are not born again, you can do so now by repenting of your sins and asking Jesus to be Lord over your life. Please do hesitate or postpone this decision.

Thank you so much for reading this post. God bless you and remain blessed.

Please share.

Behold He Comes

I stared up at the sky for a moment on my way home after a busy day. The sky was beautiful and cloudy and in that moment, I thought to myself “Behold He comes in the clouds with ten thousands of His saints”. It was a beautiful peaceful thought, imagining Christ coming for His saints. I thought of the rest it would bring and how sweet it would be to be with Jesus at His coming.

Elizabeth eluh

There is a great event coming up that will affect the whole world. It is an event that all true followers and believers of Jesus are waiting for. It is the catching up of the saints. A term commonly known as The Rapture.

At its occurrence, a trumpet will sound and the bodies of all who have died in Christ will be resurrected and in the blink of an eye,  everyone alive whose sins have been washed in the blood of Jesus and whose garment has been kept pure will be caught up in the sky to meet Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 4:17 KJV Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

Only those who are in Christ will hear this trumpet both the dead and the living and their bodies will be changed from this earthly and mortal body to a heavenly and immortal body, and they will remain with the Lord forever.

1 Corinthians 15:52-53 KJV In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. [53] For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

How wonderful it will be to experience this and remain with God forever. Sadly, not everyone on earth is ready for this event. Many feel this event has long been announced and don’t believe it will happen in their generation. Others feel they already have a form of godliness and are already followers of Christ, however, they don’t follow His teachings nor obey His commandments. Some have just drifted so far from God their lives have lost every semblance of Christ-likeness and they are far from being ready for the Coming of Jesus.

Matthew 24:42 AMP “So be alert [give strict attention, be cautious and active in faith], for you do not know which day [whether near or far] your Lord is coming.

Jesus calls for all waiting for His coming to remain alert.

You might be reading this and thinking “what if I miss the rapture and I’m not taken up?” Well, the bible warns of a dreadful time after the rapture so terrible there has never been anytime more terrible in history, nor will ever be.

Matthew 24:21 KJV For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

It will be a time when God will pour out His wrath on the world. A time when death will be sought for and not found. It will be a time of great suffering and pain its days will have to be shortened so that some could survive.

Matthew 24:22 KJV And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.

You might think “well, the world is already a terrible place now, how bad can it get?” Well, the bible refers to the present suffering and sorrow in the world as just the beginning in Matthew 24:8 AMP “But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs [of the intolerable anguish and the time of unprecedented trouble]”.

Now think of the current condition of the world, terrorism, famine, droughts, sufferings, pains, sorrow, hunger, death and countless more, yet even with all these, it seems to be getting worse day by day. Now, If the bible refers to this current condition as just the beginning, then imagine how terrible that time will be.

Someone might read this and think, “why must I believe that this event will even take place?”. Well, in answer to that, there are many events prophesied in the bible that came to pass with accuracy long after they were prophesied. Some include

  • The virgin birth of Jesus in Isaiah 7:14. This was fulfilled about 750 years after it was prophesied by Isaiah
  • The betrayal of Jesus by a friend in Psalm 41:9 KJV. This was fulfilled about 1200 years after is was prophesied by King David
  • The exact amount of money that Jesus would be betrayed with in Zechariah 11:12 KJV. This was fulfilled about 550 years later after it was prophesied Zechariah

These are just three examples of events that were prophesied and came to pass with precise accuracy. Hence, regardless of how long it takes, it will be fulfilled, just as it is written about it.

Therefore, the prophecy of the catching up of the saints just before the time of Great Suffering will also come to pass. Paul the Apostle prophesied about it in 1 Thessalonians 4:17 and 1 Corinthians 15:52. Jesus Himself also prophesied about the terrible time coming after the saints have been caught up in Matthew 24 and Luke 21. John also prophesied about these events in detail in the book of Revelation.

All these signs cannot be ignored. It will come to fulfillment just as God has said in His Word. Isaiah 55:10-11 KJV “For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater. [11] So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Jesus also said in Luke 21: 33 KJV “Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away”. This means that every word God has ever spoken will come to pass, it will never go back to Him void. That is why Paul the Apostle said in Acts 17:30 KJV “And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent”.

God is calling all who are not washed in the blood of Jesus to repent and is reminding all who profess to follow Him to be watchful and prayerful. Luke 21:36 KJV “Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man”.

The question I therefore ask you now is, If Jesus were to come this very second, would you hear the trumpet sound? Or would you be among those wondering if the rapture just occurred.

Everything has been put in place to help you be ready for the rapture, will you allow it be in vain in your own life, or will you take the life line stretched out to you.

You are not reading this post today by coincidence, Jesus is calling you to repent and accept Him if you haven’t and reminding all who follow Him half heartedly (having a form of godliness but disobedient to God’s commandments) to WAKE UP and get ready. There won’t be a second rapture.

“Behold the Lord cometh with ten thousands of His saints”

Why Jesus Died for you and me

He went through a gruesome death to save us from a gruesome eternity.

There is a man who came to this Earth about 2000 years ago, who willingly died on a cross by crucifixion to bring salvation to mankind and rose up three days later. I’m writing this post to explain to you why he had to die and why He had to go through a very gruesome and horrific experience to bring a much needed salvation to mankind.

Lets start with a story recorded in the Bible which took place around 1400BC about Moses, the Children of Israel and their journey out of Egypt.

Around 1800BC, a world wide drought affected the whole world for 7 years. This forced Israel (Jacob) and his entire family to migrate from Canaan to Egypt which had enough food in storage to outlast the drought. The food storage and distribution was under the supervision of a Pharaoh appointed leader (Joseph) who was also the son of Israel (Jacob). When Israel and his family migrated to Egypt, Pharaoh gave the land of Goshen to the Children of Israel to live with their families and look after their children and cattle’s. After the seven year drought, Israel and his family remained in Goshen where they multiplied and grew in population.

However, 400 years later (around 1400BC), a different Pharaoh arose into power and did not remember Joseph nor his people Israel, and out of fear for their growth and multiplication turned them to bitter slaves. He killed their male children at birth to reduce Israel’s population and caused them to work under hard rigor and labor while building cities for Pharaoh. This hard life caused the Children of Israel to cry out to God to deliver them from the bondage and slavery of Egypt and God answered their prayers and sent Moses to Pharaoh to let His people (Israel) go.

When Moses went to Pharaoh to give him the message from God to release Israel from Egypt so that they could go to their own land and worship their God, Pharaoh being full of arrogance and pride, refused to obey God’s command and hardened his heart, wanting the Children of Israel to remain his slaves. God therefore unleashed ten plagues on the land of Egypt to force Pharaoh to willingly allow Israel to leave Egypt.

From the first plague to the ninth plague, the children of Israel were not required to perform any exercise to be safe from the plagues, God protected them supernaturally, and they were not affected by any of the plagues, however, for the tenth plague, God gave the Children of Israel a prior instruction to be carried out in other to be safe from the plague.

Now what was this instruction? God was about to take the lives of every first born in Egypt, both of human and of cattle and he asked each house hold in Israel to kill a lamb without blemish and use the blood of that lamb to paint the top and two sides of their home’s entrance door.

God was going to pass through Egypt to kill every firstborn and execute judgment on all the gods of Egypt, and required the blood of a lamb without spot painted on the door’s of His people’s home so that as He passes and sees that blood, he will pass over that house keeping every firstborn in that house safe from death. However, any house without the blood on the door, will be visited and every firstborn there will die.

You might wonder, was the blood just a sign so God would know who is His and who is not? Well, the answer is yes and no. The blood was a sign, but also much more than a sign. The blood signified that a lamb had already been killed for that house hold, and has paid the price for any firstborn inside, therefore, there is no need for any firstborn inside that house to die again, since that lamb had died on the firstborn’s behalf.

Now, I want you to look at that spotless lamb that was killed on behalf of the firstborn, and then look at Jesus the spotless (sinless) man who was killed on behalf of the whole world.

He was oppressed, and He was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth: He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so He openeth not His mouth.

Isaiah 53:7 KJV

Right from the time the first man and woman (Adam and Eve) sinned against God in the garden of Eden, man had fallen from Grace. Man became less than what God intended him to be. We became infected with the nature of sin to do evil without the power to stop ourselves. Have you ever wondered why some people are addicted to smoking, drugs, alcohol , fornication and many other terrible things that are bad for them and their health, and terribly want to stop doing it, but are unable to do so.

No wonder Paul the Apostle by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit wrote:

For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

For I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 7:18-21.23-25a

The writer saw that even though he tried to do good, he couldn’t, he saw another force in his body that was in total disagreement with the intentions of his heart, and finally cried out, “O wretched man that I am, who shall deliver me from the body of this death?”

Just like Paul, all of mankind have a different internal force pushing us to do things that are contrary to what God wants us to do, making it so natural for us to lie, steal, fornicate, kill and then see nothing wrong with it at all, blinded to the fact that it drags us down to the pits the of hell; This is the deception of the devil. This nature of sin was born into every man, because the first man and woman, where infected by it, so all generations where also born infected by it. That is why it is so natural for even a toddler to do something he/she already knows is wrong, and that is why the bible says in Romans 3:23 KJV All have sinned and come short of the Glory of God”  and in Psalm 51:5 KJV Behold I was shapen in iniquity: and in sin did my mother conceive me”

God being Holy, cannot have sin go unpunished. He is a Just God. Every action has its consequence, and every man must pay for his/her actions.

God seeing this, the eternal consequence of it, knowing we cannot clean ourselves from it, nor remove that terrible nature from our lives, sent Jesus His only begotten Son to come and pay the price for all our sinful actions. Just like a drowning man cannot save another drowning man, Jesus came to pull us out from the nature of sin, and to pay the price for all the sins that we have ever committed so that we could have a clean slate like we never sinned before.

Just like the blood from a lamb without spot had to be shed to save the firstborns of Israel, so also, the blood of a man without sin had to be shed to save all of mankind from the consequences of their sins.

To therefore place this shed blood of Jesus on our lives, so that the wrath of God can pass over us (like the Israelites placed the shed blood the the lamb of their doors so that the Angel of death would pass over them), we need to accept Jesus as our Lord, Master and personal savior. Asking him by faith to forgive us of all our sins, and wash us clean in His blood.

Its only when you do this that you will be free from the bondage of sin and its nature. You will also be free from the guilt of all sins ever committed, and God won’t look at you like a sinner anymore, because the price to be paid for your sins has been made by Jesus. Jesus then gives you His own very nature and as you yield yourself to Christ, the more like him you become.

Just like sin was a nature to you before, so also Holiness becomes a nature to you now, because you’ve yielded your will to the will of God. You become brand new, with the hope of eternity with God forever.

This is why Jesus is the only way to heaven, because He is the only one who paid the price for us. He is the only one who has taken the punishments that we should have taken. He is the only one whose blood is valid to make the coming wrath of God pass over us. It is only His blood that God recognizes in heaven and on earth and under the earth. It is the only blood that can save from sin.

Just like the Angel of death came to take every firstborn in Egypt, so also, the Wrath of God is coming to the whole earth. Remember, God is Holy and Just and He cannot have sin go unpunished. A time is coming when God’s punishment will come to the whole world, and only those whose lives have been washed by the blood of the lamb will be exempted. Why don’t you accepts Jesus Sacrifice for you and don’t let his sacrifice be in vain in your own life. With every passing second countless people are dying, going to an eternity without hope, without the covering of the blood of Jesus, reaching a point where it has become too late to accept Jesus as their Lord and Saviour, but you are still alive, accept him NOW if you haven’t and do all you can to help others accept Him before its too late.

God bless you for reading this, I pray your life never remains the same after this. I pray you surrender and re-dedicate your life to Jesus and make Him Lord over your life and then join in telling others how wonderful Jesus is, and the blessedness that abides in Him.

Jesus went through a gruesome death to save us from a gruesome eternity.

Who is Jesus?

Before I gave my life to Jesus Christ, I only knew Him distantly through and by what others said about Him. I had no personal relationship with Him.

Of course because I grew up in a church, I prayed to Him and knew He is God, but I didn’t fully understand who He really is, nor could I comprehend the greatness of His glory or the impact of what He had done for me. I just knew him as a person in heaven who wants us to live without sin so that we can one day live with Him forever.

I did try to live a clean life, but I couldn’t, and because of that I always felt condemned in my heart that I had done something God didn’t want me to do. I would pray for His forgiveness, without really resolving to turn away from sin in my heart.

This all changed however when one night as I laid on my bed, I heard my sister tell me while she was looking at her phone that the rapture had taken place. Being a girl who grew up in church, I knew what the rapture meant and because my sister was looking at her phone while she said it, I taught she had seen it on facebook or somewhere on the Internet and was telling me what she saw.

I was completely horrified. I thought to myself, whoa, you mean the rapture has taking place and i’m left behind. You mean, I’m left behind, you mean, i’m really left behind? So what’s the point of my life then. Jesus has come and taken his people, and now, i’ll be left to face the worst time in the history of humanity. So whats the point of having all those sinful pleasures and missing heaven, whats the point of disobeying my parents and getting away with it, and missing heaven, whats the point of being proud and arrogant and choosing to live a sinful life when all it will do is lead is to an eternity in hell. Whats the point?

I laid there on my bed, in tears, regret, anguish and deep sorrow, when my eyes opened, and I saw the vanity of life. How life meant nothing without Christ. How there was no point of having everything I ever wanted and loosing heaven. It made absolutely no sense. My eyes were literally opened, just like as though a veil was removed from my eyes, just like the Bible says in 2 Corinthians 4:4 KJV “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them”

I was in total darkness and now the light had shone and my eyes were opened and I could see, and fully comprehend that there is no profit in gaining the world and loosing eternity with God. Just like the verse in the Bible that says in Mark 8:36 KJV “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” and in Matthew 16:26 KJV “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”

I decided there and then to surrender my life to Jesus. To give him all that I am and will ever be. I prayed that the news of the rapture was not true and later I found out that it had been false, and when I went to church the following Sunday, I re-dedicated my life to Jesus and everything changed from that point on. I became a new person, my focus in life changed, my outlook on life changed, my desires changed, even the types of songs I used to listened to changed. Everything changed. It was a complete turn around. Soon my family noticed, my friends noticed, my colleagues in school noticed. I just wanted to know more about God and my desire to be in the house of God grew strong. I always wanted to go church and learn more about God, I wanted to serve God and let my friends know about God.

What the Bible said in 2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV says “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” came alive in my life. I indeed became new.

Now, this brings me now to the topic of this post, WHO IS JESUS?

Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah, the Anointed one, the Son of the living God, the definition of Love, the one who came to this Earth 2000 years ago to die on a cross, so that you and I can live in His righteousness (if we accept Him) Just as the Bible says in 1 Peter 2:24 KJV “Who His own self bare our sins in his own body on the the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed”

Jesus came to pay the price for all humanity. To give as many as who receive Him eternal life.

He is the only way to heaven.

Just as I too could not comprehend who Jesus is nor His Love for me before I gave my life to Him, so also, it will be impossible for you to know who Jesus is without having a close relationship with Him. Just like two friends get to know each other as they interact daily, so also we get to know Jesus daily as we commune with Him in prayer and by reading His Word The Bible everyday. Its a relationship that constantly grows.

If you too want to have a new life and a new beginning with Jesus Christ and you want Him to save you just as he saved me, all you need to do is surrender your life to Jesus by asking Him to forgive you of all your sins and to come and dwell your heart and be Master over every part of your life. Determining in your heart never to go back to your past ways.

If you want this, please say this prayer after me “Lord Jesus, I come before you today, as a sinner, I believe that you died on the cross to save me. Have mercy on me Lord, forgive me for all my sins, I surrender my life to you today, write my name in the book of life, cleanse me of all unrighteousness, purify my heart, wash me in your precious blood. Thank you for answering my prayers, I believe that I am forgiven. For In Jesus name I’ve prayed. Amen.

If you just said this prayer, I congratulate you. Know that the angels of God are rejoicing with you by this decision you have made.
You can contact me by clicking here, I would like to hear from you and pray with you on your new path and journey.

If you still need more clarification on why Jesus had to die for the world, why He is the only way to heaven and why you must surrender your life to Him, please read my next post on Why Jesus died for you and me. If you don’t know what the rapture means or the events surrounding the Rapture please read my post on Behold He Comes.

I challenge you today to start reading the Bible if you don’t. You will find unlimited knowledge of who Christ is if you read it with an open and true heart.

I really pray that this message will touch your heart, and help you to see a little of how wonderful Jesus is, and how beautiful life can be when you allow Jesus to become the master of it.
Please think on these things, meditate on His Word, live a Holy life and wait for the coming of Jesus. He is coming back again.

Thank you so much for reading this post, God bless you.

I thought about it for a while and decided to do what God was leading me to do. That’s how this blog came to be. .
